The Caspar Pituitary Rongeur, named after neurosurgical pioneer Dr. Wolfhard Caspar, is a core disc-removal instrument for ACDF, PLIF, and lumbar decompression cases. Five interlocking teeth along each cup edge lock onto fibrous disc tissue, preventing slippage as the jaws close. That secure engagement matters most when working adjacent to the dura and nerve roots, and it makes the instrument a strong choice for dense or calcified disc pathology that resists smoother-jawed rongeurs. Because the fenestrations let excised tissue pass into the jaw rather than pack at the tip, cutting efficiency stays high and hand fatigue stays low through longer cases, with larger fragments removed in fewer passes.
