Hibbs (1885–1964), the American orthopaedic surgeon whose innovations transformed spinal surgery and rehabilitation, and the pattern remains a fixture on laminectomy and fusion trays today.
The instrument is dual-ended: one blade carries two teeth for a secure purchase on retracted tissue, while the opposite end presents a rounded blunt blade for gentler exposure where tissue trauma must be kept to a minimum. A curved, ergonomic handle gives the assistant a stable, comfortable hold through long procedures, and the satin-finished stainless steel body stands up to repeated autoclaving.
Beyond spine work, the retractor serves general orthopaedic and reconstructive cases wherever dependable deep-tissue retraction is needed. EB MED CO supplies the Hibbs Retractor to hospitals and surgical centres throughout Canada.
