The Toledo cannula’s distal end is forked into a V shape rather than rounded, giving it a mild wedging action as it advances through tissue. Instead of cutting indiscriminately the way a sharp cannula would, the V tip separates fibrous septa and gently displaces small vessels, allowing the surgeon to move through subcutaneous fat with reduced resistance. A single interior port then removes the loosened tissue behind the leading edge. This combination of dissection and aspiration in one pass makes it a common choice for the earliest stages of a case, when the surgical plane is still being established.

The tip geometry is particularly useful in dense, fibrous regions — for example glandular tissue in gynecomastia correction, or the tightly compartmentalized fat of the upper back and flanks — where a standard round-tipped cannula can struggle to track predictably. The V shape also helps the instrument stay locked into a chosen layer during superficial liposuction or body etching, resisting drift into deeper muscle or the overlying dermis, which supports crisper, more controlled contour lines.
